Product selection guide
Which PCR master mix should you choose?
Our PCR range includes a genotyping mix, a rapid Taq-based mix and a high-fidelity long PCR mix. Compare the enzyme, loading dye and DNA-end format, then check the manufacturer instructions for your template.
Based on manufacturer specifications. Product documents and sources.
Genotyping, rapid or high-fidelity PCR: what differs?
Choose 10108 for genotyping, 10167 for rapid routine PCR, or 10166 for high-fidelity and long-fragment amplification. The mixes differ in polymerase, amplification conditions and the DNA ends they produce. Compare the details below with your downstream application.
| Application | Product | Key specifications |
|---|---|---|
| Genotyping | 10108 · Hieff Genotyping Master Mix | Ligand-modified hot-start Taq, 2X, with dye; 3′-A product ends |
| Rapid routine PCR | 10167 · Hieff Ultra-Rapid II | Antibody-modified Taq, 2X, with red tracking dye; 3′-A product ends |
| High-fidelity or long PCR | 10166 · Hieff Canace Veritas | Canace high-fidelity DNA polymerase, 2X, with dye; blunt-ended products; reported fidelity 83× Taq / 9× standard Pfu |

Is every PCR master mix a Taq mix?
10108 and 10167 contain Taq-based polymerases. 10166 contains Hieff Canace high-fidelity DNA polymerase.
For cloning or other downstream work, check whether you need 3′-A overhangs or blunt ends. Follow the protocol supplied for the selected mix.

Can you compare products by their fastest time or longest fragment?
Separate the fastest rate from the longest supported fragment. For 10167, the manual lists up to 15 kb but restricts the fastest 1 second/kb rate to specified short templates. The webpage gives different length figures in its features and table; the manual's 15 kb specification is not a guarantee for every template.
For 10166, the manual gives 5–10 seconds/kb with length-dependent guidance. Its webpage FAQ describes 1–14 kb cDNA amplification; that is not a universal maximum for all template types.
For 10108, manual EN20251208 confirms ligand-modified Taq with built-in Hot Start, resolving the contradictory ‘No’ entry in the website table. This guide uses the manual for the mechanism.
| Product | Manufacturer-listed capability | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 10108 | Hot-start Taq; standard-speed genotyping | Manual confirms Hot Start despite conflicting website entry |
| 10167 | As fast as 1 second/kb; up to 15 kb | Separate claims: the fastest rate applies to specified short templates |
| 10166 | 83× Taq / 9× Pfu fidelity; 20–80% GC | Manufacturer-reported fidelity, not yield or an independent cross-brand ranking |

Is a PCR mix with dye the same as a SYBR qPCR mix?
No. The dye in these endpoint PCR products supports the stated electrophoresis workflow. It does not turn them into a real-time fluorescence-detection formulation. If you need real-time PCR measurement, compare the separate qPCR range and the instrument requirements.
All three endpoint mixes listed here contain dye. Check compatibility before purchasing for an application that requires a colourless formulation.

Should you compare price per mL or price per reaction?
Our product pages show GBP pack prices excluding VAT and the price per mL or reaction where applicable. A 5 × 1 mL pack contains 5 mL; compare its price per mL with other packs of the same mix.
For prices per reaction, check the reaction volume stated by the manufacturer. Choose the formulation and pack size for your experiment, then compare the total cost including VAT and delivery.
