Understanding reagent pack sizes and kit contents

T indicates a product-specific reaction or ladder-load count; mL indicates volume. Enhancer and loading-buffer volumes are listed separately. Check the kit contents and recommended reaction volume when comparing pack prices.

Based on manufacturer specifications. Product documents and sources.

What does T mean on these packs?

T is not interchangeable between reagent categories. In the examples below, each count has its own manufacturer-defined basis. Capacity depends on the manufacturer’s stated use basis and excludes handling losses.

Pack labels and their counting basis
ExampleWhat the pack providesWhat not to assume
11155 · 10 TTen RT reactions at the stated 20 µL formatTen 96-well qPCR plates
11184 · 1 mL, 2×100 reactions at 20 µL total / 10 µL mix per reaction100 reactions at every reaction volume
10510 · 100 T500 µL ladder: 100 loads at 5 µL each100 sample lanes, PCR reactions or gels
5 × 1 mL master mix5 mL of that mix in five vialsFive separate multi-component kits

Does enhancer volume count as transfection-reagent volume?

No. A 100 µL Booster pack contains 100 µL of reagent plus 100 µL of enhancer. A 100 µL RNAiBoost pack contains 100 µL of reagent plus 300 µL of enhancer. The labelled reagent quantity is still 100 µL in each case.

The enhancer amounts and payload-specific instructions differ. Adding all liquids together would give a misleading price per µL for the active reagent being compared. Use the exact kit contents and required workflow instead.

Which unit price is useful?

Price per mL helps compare packs of the same master mix; price per reaction is useful only with an explicit reaction-volume basis. Price per ladder load requires the loading volume. For transfection kits, compare the stated reagent volume and included components, then evaluate actual use in your laboratory.

As arithmetic examples, 1 mL divided by 10 µL per reaction gives 100 reactions, while 500 µL divided by 5 µL per ladder load gives 100 loads. Allow for preparation losses when deciding what to order.

  • Same formulation and concentration.
  • Same reaction or loading-volume basis.
  • Reagent versus enhancer, water or loading-buffer volumes.
  • GBP price excluding VAT, applicable delivery and batch expiry.
  • Expected use before expiry rather than pack size alone.
